The most important trade show for the pig industry in Northern America took place from 4-6th of June in Des Moines, IL – US. The show was mainly under the shadow of current impact of PED virus spread out in US. Despite this dramatic impact to the pig market on the other side the lucky ones of producers who were able to keep out the deadly virus out of the farm site, are celebrating the best prices and margins in the pig production ever. Schauer has been doing together with our distribution partner AP-GSI an excellent job in introducing Compident ESF for group housing of sows into the marked. This demand is still unbroken, even the impact of PEDv is not accelerating the investments of big pig producers at the moment.

A study, published by pig progress in June 2014 shows that until March 2014 in 27 US states with approximately 50% of sows herds are reported as being infected. The deep negative impact of production losses is expected to arise in autumn of 2014. Even sophisticated feedback programs (6 to 7 weeks prior to the farowing) to increase lactogenic immunity and antibody absorption from the colostrum leave the expectation that the situation will get better in the future, the strict biosecurity is the immediate prevention what the farms can do just right now, to avoid the risk of infection. This should include restriction access that any birds or pests may have to swine, compost piles, and rendering pickup locations and hygiene of any transport entering the premises and subsequently of any employees interacting with income vehicles. Even the feed need to be analysed! The World Porc Expo is a meeting place for the professionals in the pig industry in North America.

Schauer has been cooperating with AP successfully for 5 years, could sell about 1200 Compident ESF feeding stations and could achieve with this number the clear No. 1 position on the US market.
