Serbia was always a country with a very mixed population, especially the northern part of Serbia which is called „Voivodina“. And here, in the northern part of Voivodina, we find a very dense and active structure of family farms which are still keeping pigs. Around 3000 mothersows are to be found in this area around Subotica, very close to the Hungarian border, and all of them are kept in family farms in a structure from 70 to 200 sows per farm. 75% of this farmers are from the Hungarian minority in Serbia, which is in that region actually the majority, so therefore it is not a surprise that Hungarian is the dominated language in this region. And it is not a surprise as well – and we’re very proud about - that 90% of all pig farms here are clients of SCHAUER AGROTEC D.O.O, the Serbian branch office of SCHAUER AGROTRONIC.

Two representatives of such family farm are Marton Arpad and Norbert Veres, both from the Subotica region, and both belong to the young generation of farmers. Marton Arpad has been keeping pigs since 2005, in that time he started with 35 sows and slowly he raised his production up to 150 sows. As for the used genetics he made already his own researches and so he changed them from time to time, but as for feeding and housing technology he is since many years a loyal client of SCHAUER.



In the same way also Norbert Veres is acting. He got the spirit of breeding pigs from his father who started around 25 ago with 15 sows. He still has it’s own farm with now around 100 sows while his son Norbert started with his own farm some kilometres away from his parents. In the moment Norbert is working with 140 sows but he has already the target of 250 sows in his eyes. As common in this region both farms are also fattening the piglets. Also the family Veres is a satisfied client of SCHAUER and we are ready to go the way further together with them.
Pig production is an interesting part in the agricultural environment in Serbia, the prices in the moment are around 185 Dinar (aprox. 1,62 €)/kg live weight for slaughter pigs and 280 Dinars (aprox. 2,45 €) net. And as our Serbian clients are keeping up investment in pig production we can see that our way of working together is being successful for the farmers and for Schauer as well.
